Director, Product Design

Role: 

This position will be responsible for designing and developing new products that meet Design, Marketing, and Management objectives for innovative category environments and structures utilizing a variety of materials, fabrics, and manufacturing processes. The Design Director will also provide management and development for Junior Staff.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Participate in business and product strategy development, including creating innovative slots and rationale for existing brand

·         Lead new product brainstorming

·         Concept Development for existing brands and new areas of expansion.

·         Research and review new product categories.

·         Prepare sketch drawings of potential product ideas and concepts.

·         Develop detailed drawings and or models of potential products.

·         Prepare presentations for review of product design concepts. Prepare final drawings of new products.

·         Create 3-D models or illustration drawings of new products.

·         Manage product design projects on a daily basis including utilizing outside consultants and vendors as needed.

·         Prepare various product description / documentation forms required by the Engineering and Production Departments for turnover of final product designs for manufacturing.

·         Interface and communicate with the overseas office on all aspects of the design and development process.

 

Qualifications:

·         10+ years in Product Design within the preschool, hard goods or toy industry working with both girls and boys categories.  Plastics, electronics, and/or mechanical experience are a plus. 

·         Bachelors Degree B.S.I.D or B.A.I.D

·         At least 5 years successfully managing and leading people; strong track record of developing people.

·         Strong creative, artistic, and aesthetic skills and the ability to integrate these skills with functional utility to product needs.

·         Experience with CAD and a computer based design.  Specific software experience required includes SolidWorks, Pro/E, AutoCAD, Illustrator and Photoshop. Strong 3-D and structural design competencies.

·         Strong analytical and communication skills.

·         Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and take products from initial concept through to production.

·         Demonstrated ability to understand the marketplace and develop product to address real opportunities 


$130-150k + bonus
